An antique Persian Ziegler Sultanabad oriental carpet, oversized, size 30'0" x 18'0", circa 1890-1900.  This colossal antique hand-knotted Sultanabad carpet is from the renowned workshop of Ziegler and Company, one of the most famous producers of Persian carpets in the late 19th century, and who were known for combining Western artistry and aesthetics with the master carpet weavings of Persia and the East.  These Ziegler Sultanabad carpets are highly prized and seldom found, and especially so in a carpet of this enormous size, age, and condition.  The soft red central field is characterized by a repeating floral design, which beautifully balances the opposite extremes of floral design and curvilinear expression with tight symmetry and exacting precision.  The central field is enclosed within a series of reciprocal outer borders, which echo and repeat some of the colors and floral motifs from the central pane.  Wool pile on a cotton foundation.  In remarkable condition for its age, size, and weaving style.
