Subject: The Marriage of Mary and Joseph

A French New Testament tapestry from Paris, circa 17th century, envisioning the marriage of Mary and Joseph, with the High Priest flanked by Mary and Joseph in the center, a dove above them, attended by a noblewoman and men, and a mother and child in the right foreground.  Enclosed within a border with upper and lower central cartouches supported by putti containing a star above and the armorial of Pierre Guischard below, six other cartouches containing the symbols of the Evangelists interspersed by fruiting and flowering swags with birds.  Wool with silk inlay.
