An antique Persian Sultanabad oriental carpet, oversized, size 20'9" x 12'8", circa 1910-1920.  This impressively sized hand-knotted Sultanabad carpet is characterized by a beautifully articulated "Mustafi" design, which is expressed in the form of a repeating series of V-shaped tree branches above bouquet-like floral expanses.  These "Mustafi" or "Mostophy" designs are much sought after and rarely found, and doubly so in a carpet of this large size, age, and condition.  The dark blue central field is enclosed within a red scrolling foliate border, the simplicity of which underscores the majesty and whimsy of the central "Mustafi" motifs.  Wool pile on a cotton foundation.  In excellent condition for its age, size, and weaving style.
